ADHD is one of the most common reasons families come to see us, and it's also one of the most misunderstood. The name suggests a shortage of attention, but that isn't quite what's happening. Most children and adults with attention struggles can focus intensely on a video game, a set of Legos or a favorite subject, and can't summon a fraction of that for a spelling list. What's actually inconsistent is the brain's ability to choose where attention goes and hold it there on demand.
Research using quantitative EEG has consistently found a recognizable pattern in many people with attention difficulties: an excess of slow-wave (theta) activity relative to faster, more alert (beta) activity in the front of the brain. That is the region responsible for planning, sequencing, and impulse control. In plain terms, the part of the brain that's supposed to be driving is idling. Neurofeedback trains that pattern directly.
One more thing worth saying out loud, because parents rarely hear it: a child who can't sit still and finish the worksheet is not lazy, defiant, or lacking character. Kids with attention struggles are usually working harder than their classmates to produce less, and they know it. That gap is where the self-esteem damage happens, often long before the academic damage does. Understanding this as a brain pattern changes the conversation at your kitchen table, and that alone is worth something.
What Is BrainCore Neurofeedback?
BrainCore Neurofeedback is a brainwave training program that uses real-time feedback to teach the brain how to regulate itself. It begins with a qualitative EEG brain map, a painless measurement of brainwave activity across the scalp that shows exactly where your child's patterns sit relative to what's typical for their age. That map is what makes this specific. It turns "he can't focus" into visible information about which patterns are out of balance and where.
From there, a training protocol is built for that individual brain. During a session, sensors are placed on the scalp and read brainwave activity while your child watches a video or listens to music.
